Devin Foley

Devin Foley


Devin is co-founder and president of Intellectual Takeout. In his role, he oversees content development and marketing, works with academics and experts to assure quality, and publicly promotes the site.

Prior to co-founding Intellectual Takeout, Devin served as the Director of Development at the Center of the American Experiment, a state-based think tank in Minnesota, where he was responsible for meeting a $1 million annual budget. He has roughly eight years of fundraising and policy experience working for candidates and non-profit organizations. Additionally, he has been on 100.3 KTLK as well as Talk of the Nation on NPR and was named a 2011 Young Leader by the American Swiss Foundation.

Devin studied history and political science at Hillsdale College in Michigan. There he met his lovely wife; together they have five kids and live in Apple Valley, Minnesota. Devin enjoys fast cars, long drives, great books, old planes, and nearly everything life throws his way. 

Dwight Tostenson

Dwight Tostenson


Dwight is co-founder and CEO of Intellectual Takeout. In his role, he oversees operations, fundraising, website development, strategic planning and overall keeps things moving forward.

Prior to co-founding Intellectual Takeout, Dwight served as the Chief Operating Officer at Center of the American Experiment. Additionally, he has over twenty-two years of experience in fundraising, campaign management, and consulting.

Dwight studied business administration and economics at Winona State University in Minnesota. Before going off to college, Dwight grew up on the 200 acre farm that has been in his family since 1854. Growing up on a farm provided him with the opportunity to learn the value of hard work helping to farm the land and raise cattle, hogs, sheep and other animals. Through his work, he put himself through college and helped two of his sisters with their education as well. Dwight enjoys spending time with his family, going to church and working on projects outside. 

Daniel Lattier

Vice President

Dan is the Vice President of Better Ed. In his role, he oversees content on the website, assists with messaging on social media, and writing for the blogs. 

Dan received his B.A. in Philosophy and Catholic Studies from the University of St. Thomas (MN), and his M.A. and Ph.D. in Systematic Theology from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA. During his doctoral studies, he served as an adjunct professor, spoke at a number of academic conferences, and published articles in peer-reviewed journals.

Dan is supported in his work by his lovely wife and their four children, to whom he devotes most of his time outside of Intellectual Takeout. Because his vocation is his avocation, he devotes the rest of his limited spare time to more research and writing.

Jim Gilbertson

Jim Gilbertson

Director of Technology

Jim serves as the Technology Director at Intellectual Takeout. In his role, he assists in website development, database management, and keeps ITO’s equipment in working order. Prior to his employment at Intellectual Takeout, Jim served as a library associate at Milton Public Library. He worked with the Library catalog database, tech support, and with patrons at the circulation desk.

Jim studied business management and economics at Luther College in Iowa. He was captivated by computers and technology however sought a degree that would provide him more social interaction. After college, Jim worked as a care provider and skills trainer for the elderly and developmentally challenged. He continued to pursue his passion in technology with side jobs and projects for fun.

As much as Jim enjoys being “plugged in”, his spare time is spent outdoors with his wife, dog, and guitar.

Annie Holmquist

Annie Holmquist

Research Associate

Annie is a research associate with Better Ed. In her role, she writes for the blog, conducts a variety of research for the organization's websites and social media pages, and assists with development projects. She particularly loves digging into the historical aspects of America's educational structure.

Annie cut her teeth on educational research as one of Better Ed's charter interns in 2009 while completing a B.A. in Biblical Studies from the University of Northwestern St. Paul. She also brings over ten years of experience in music education to her work at Better Ed.

In her spare time Annie enjoys the outdoors, gardening, reading, and events with family and friends. She is actively involved in an inner city church where she serves as Sunday school teacher, church pianist, and music director.
